Learn about tropical wonders at the Daintree Discovery Centre

Daintree Discovery Centre

The Daintree Rainforest is the world’s oldest continually surviving rainforest, an enormous tropical wonderland that is home to some of Australia’s most unique wildlife. Whether you’re traversing the lush forest floor (or canopy), learning about southern cassowaries and tiger quolls or lazing out at Cape Tribulation (one of the world’s most beautiful beaches), the Daintree Rainforest is truly an unforgettable experience.

One of the highlights of the Daintree is, without a doubt, the Daintree Discovery Centre. Here, visitors learn all about the forest at every level, from the floor to the heights of the canopy!

The Daintree Discovery Centre provides an amazing entry level experience for the forest, educating visitors about the incredible history of the forest and why conservation is so important in the region.

So, what are some of the amazing activities you can experience at this special conservation centre?

  • Climb to the top of the forest canopy

The Daintree Discovery Centre is home to a sky high experience – the 23 metre rainforest canopy tour. This wonderful experience allows you to reach the peaks of the forest trees, with five unique levels providing various information on the way up. You might even spot some of the forest’s unique, tree-chilling wildlife along the way!

  • The aerial walkway

This gorgeous mid-level walkway provides a link between different attractions in the centre, but is very much its own wonderful experience, a living walkway that provides visitors with incredible views over McLean’s Creek. The walkway is eco-friendly, allowing all elements through to the forest floor whilst being an amazing way to enjoy the centre.

  • Learn about the feisty cassowary

The Daintree Rainforest is synonymous with the cassowary, one of Australia’s rowdiest creatures. The cassowary has earned a bit of a rep for having a bit of a temper, and has been known to chase tourists around beachfront and forest floors.

Luckily, your guide will ensure that you don’t get too close to these territorial birds, but you will learn all about their fascinating mannerisms and what makes them such a unique Australian animal!

  • Interpretive Display Centre

The Display Centre is a massive, open plan complex housing exciting displays with easy-to-read text. The perfect way to learn more about the Daintree Rainforest and its ecosystem, the Display Centre provides plenty of information about crocodiles, cassowaries and other animals that call the forest home!
