The Daintree Rainforest is one of Australia’s most spectacular natural wonderlands. With its lush forest canopy, ubiquitous animal population, Indigenous history and sublime beaches all comprising the landscape, it is little wonder why nature lovers flock to the Daintree to experience some of Australia’s most serene tropical magic!
We should start by saying yes, of course you can walk through the Daintree! There are numerous hiking trails that traverse this incredible rainforest, taking you through vibrant canopy, to flowing streams and even out to the wondrous Cape Tribulation, easily one of the world’s most beautiful beaches.
Alongside gorgeous nature hikes, you can expect to enjoy these amazing Daintree adventures upon arrival:
Croc-spotting cruise
The Daintree Rainforest is home to thousands of unique animal species, but the most feared and ferocious of all is that of the majestic saltwater crocodile. Saltwater crocodiles, or “salties”, as they’re affectionately known, roam the Daintree River in search of food and a little aqua refreshment.
This makes for an incredible croc-spotting cruise, with a local biologist pointing out these prehistoric predators as well as a myriad of other Daintree inhabitants like birds, marsupials and plenty more reptiles!
Indigenous heritage tour
The Kuku Yalanji people have called the Mossman Gorge area home for thousands of years, and the Queensland Government has thankfully returned it to their rightful ownership.
No trip to the Daintree/Mossman Gorge is complete without a Kuku Yalanji heritage walk, where you will have the opportunity to learn all about the peoples’ deep and lasting connection to the region’s land and waterways.
There will be bush tucker lessons, a traditional smoking ceremony, as well as visits to traditional huts and or humpies as you go. There is truly no better way to become better acquainted with the Daintree than through the perspective of those who have lived in the region for eons before Europeans arrived – don’t miss this unforgettable experience!
Cape Tribulation
Cape Tribulation is one of the world’s most gorgeous beaches, hands down. This dreamy stretch of coastline is revered for its vibrant tropical hues and gorgeous water, making it the perfect place to refresh and unwind after an awesome day’s rainforest hiking.
Stretch out on the sand or jump in for a well-earned dip – you’ll have as long as you need to soak up the sun and water on this beach where time is forgotten.
