Where the ancient rainforest meets the largest coral reef, Cape Tribulation is a beautiful coastal town to visit.

The drive from Port Douglas to Cape Tribulation is just under two hours. The drive between these two coastal towns is remarkable, with many chances to stop off in the middle of the world’s oldest rainforest, the Daintree!

What to see in between Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation

As you are driving, here are some great places to stop at to stretch your legs and explore more of the Daintree Rainforest.

Mossman Gorge

Mossman Gorge is often known as the beginning of the Daintree Rainforest. Visiting Mossman Gorge is a must to see the rainforest, mountain peaks, and waterfalls. This is also a great place to learn about the Aboriginal’s connection to the land on a guided tour.

Daintree River
Between Cape Tribulation and Port Douglass is the Daintree River, which you will have to cross on the drive. The Daintree River cruise is a chance to spot wildlife, including the saltwater crocodile.

Mount Alexandra Lookout

Mount Alexandra Lookout is easily one of the most scenic lookouts in the Daintree Rainforest. From this lookout, you will have a view across the lush Daintree that stretches out to the water where you can even see the Great Barrier Reef!

Learn more about the Daintree Rainforest at the Daintree Discovery Centre with treetops walks, Jurassic Forest, and so much more! There is also a cafe to have coffee and some food while you’re here.

Jindalba Boardwalk

Discover the lowland rainforest of Mount Alexandra, the 45-minute track of the Jindalba Boardwalk is a great way to explore the Daintree. Take your time along the boardwalk and keep an eye out for the different wildlife that lives here.

Madja Boardwalk
The Madja Boardwalk is a short 45-minute walking track through the lowland rainforest of the Daintree. Along the boardwalk, you will notice different signs that label the different plants.
