Daintree with Indigenous Fishing & Bush Food Tour Itinerary
Get to know the Aboriginal history of Australia on this one-day adventure around the Daintree Rainforest. Throughout the day, you’ll have the chance to immerse yourself in the rich culture of the region and explore the beautiful scenery of the UNESCO World Heritage listed national park.
The day begins with a 2 hour coastal and mangrove walk at Cooya Beach. This is a traditional fishing spot of the Kuku Yalanji people, and you can join one of the Kubirri Warra brothers as they take you around the lush landscape, passing through mudflats, mangroves and pristine beaches. You’ll have the chance to gather your own food before we move on to the Mossman Gorge Centre for lunch.
Here, you can tuck into local flavours and browse the gallery and its many artworks from emerging creatives in the area.
Then it’s on to Mossman Gorge, where you’ll be introduced to the area with a traditional smoking ceremony conducted by local Aboriginal people. The ceremony is to cleanse and ward off evil spirits so that your journey in the land of the Kuku Yalanji people is honoured and accepted. Afterwards, there’ll be time to wander through the rainforest of the Daintree National Park and head to Mossman Gorge. You driver guide will take you across public boardwalks, tracks, and bridges, admiring stunning views and learning more about the rich wildlife that characterises the land.
Bring your bathers so you can dip into the cool clear waters of the swimming hole – the perfect way to cool off in the Australian sun.
This one-day adventure through the Daintree Rainforest won’t just open up one of Australia’s most beautiful landscapes for you, but it will give you the chance to delve deep into the rich and fascinating cultural history that imbues the area, learning more about the Aboriginal traditions and how they live in their tropical surroundings.
