Weather in the Daintree Rainforest in the Dry Season

With cooler temperatures and lower humidity, the dry season is considered the best time to visit the Daintree.

The Daintree Rainforest experiences only two seasons each year, with the dry season occurring between May and October. These months are cooler and drier compared to the rest of the year. It is a popular time to visit due to the absence of major thunderstorms and more pleasant weather conditions, with temperatures averaging around 26 degrees Celsius.

Why are there only two seasons?

This part of Australia experiences only two seasons, in contrast to the European concept of four seasons, because of its tropical climate. This pattern is also observed in other northern parts of Australia.

The Kuku Yalanji people, traditional owners of the land, say there are five seasons! There aren’t proper set dates for when the seasons start as they go by when certain things in nature start to happen.

What to do in the dry season

The Daintree offers a variety of activities during the dry season. Despite being outside the wet season, the rainforest remains lush and vibrant.

– Cape Tribulation

One of the most beautiful areas of the Daintree is Cape Tribulation. This breathtaking coastal region is ideal for relaxation, swimming, and off road adventures. Cape Tribulation is notable for being the only place in the world where two World Heritage sites converge, the ancient Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.

– Mount Sorrow

For hiking enthusiasts, the Mount Sorrow ridge trail is a must-do. This seven kilometre return walk takes approximately six hours and is classified as a grade four walking track. The trail begins in the lowland rainforest and ascends to the upland, offering stunning views of the Daintree coastline. On clear days, you can see as far as Snapper Island and the outlines of individual reefs in the Great Barrier Reef.

– Daintree River

A Daintree River cruise provides an opportunity to observe a variety of unique wildlife. Keep a look out for saltwater crocodiles swimming in the Daintree River or basking on the riverbanks. If you’re planning to visit the Daintree yourself, consider renting a car or booking a one day tour of the rainforest! Experience the ancient lush rainforest, breathtaking views, and local wildlife firsthand.
