Cape Tribulation is a pretty part of the Daintree Rainforest that consists of a large beach that curves along the side of the rainforest. On Cape Tribulation Beach, the strip of sand is significant, as it marks the point where the rainforest meets the sea. Make sure you take a walk on the beach to see the famous beach. It’s a must-do in the Daintree!
This is where two ecosystems coexist with one another. It’s one of the only places in the world where two completely different ecosystems coexist right next to one another.
So what is there to do in Cape Tribulation? Whether you’ve got one day in Cape Tribulation or you’ve got a week, here are our favourite things to do!
Spot crocodiles
Go on a crocodile cruise! There is an abundance of crocodiles that live in the Daintree River, so why not spot them at a safe distance from the comfort of a river boat? With a knowledgeable tour guide that goes out to see the crocs every day, you’ll get to meet these sharp-toothed creatures of the Daintree.
Trek up to Mt Sorrow
Feeling up to a long hike? Make sure you check out Mt Sorrow, if you’re up for a challenge! It’s quite a steep climb up to the top, so be prepared to put your legs into action.
The conditions can be humid, and it’s a steep incline during the last kilometre – so bear that in mind – but it’s worth it! The views are lovely at the top, which makes for a highly rewarding hike.
Look out for the exciting wildlife during your hike. You’ll see tree kangaroos and cassowaries that will accompany you.
The trail is marked, but there can be some scrambling, so it’s a recommended bush walk only for high fitness hikers and adventurers.
Wander around the forest on the boardwalks
Countless boardwalks meander around the Daintree. Explore the walks that go through Cape Tribulation and explore the incredible nature that thrives there.
Check out Marrdja Boardwalk for a peaceful walk around mangroves and vivid green rainforest. With plenty of viewing platforms dotted around and a boardwalk that cuts through nature’s best bits, you’ll feel completely immersed in the rainforest.
The mangroves teem with many different species of wildlife, and you might even get to see a cassowary.
Sample some exotic ice cream made from exotic fruit
Check out the Daintree Ice Cream Company! They use exotic fruits that grow locally in the rainforest. They harvest and ferment fruits like durian and black sapote, to extract a more concentrated flavour. Then it’s made into yummy ice cream.
Labelled as ‘the most scenic ice cream company ever’, the picturesque ice cream factory is nestled among the vivid green hills of the Daintree rainforest on the side of the road, just about 20 minutes away from Cape Tribulation.
Make sure you grab a coffee up there too – it’s delicious!
