There are so many ways that you can enjoy the magic of the Daintree, without spending a dollar. When the budget it low, but the wanderlust is high, then the Daintree is the perfect place for you!
You’ll have to pay a ferry fee of $40 return, but once you’re in the Daintree, you can do a self-guided experience, and wander around the rainforest for free.
There are plenty of things you can do to see the Daintree for free! You don’t need stacks of cash to enjoy the natural beauty of the rainforest.
Wander around the boardwalks
The Daintree is full of different boardwalks that offer you a great walk around the rainforest’s best bits. You don’t even need to spend much to enjoy the magic of the Daintree Rainforest.
Marrdja Boardwalk is in a great spot in the Daintree, and it’s relatively central. It’s a lovely spot full of natural wonder. Look down and see the scrub fowls and mud crabs! You’ll see the mud crabs emerging from the damp, muddy floor. Look around, and you’ll see insects, reptiles and spider webs. Look up, and you’ll see birds of striking rainbow colours. The rainforest truly is a magical experience – things are happening all around. You won’t want to miss it!
Dubuji Boardwalk is a great boardwalk that is very central to the Daintree. You’ll be able to experience all the rainforest from a raised platform.
Visit Alexandra Lookout
For stunning views that showcase the beauty of the Daintree, head over to the Alexandra Lookout Point. You’ll see where the ocean meets the rainforest, in a spectacular display of two natural systems coexisting. It’s a panoramic view that treats the eyes to a priceless, living work of art!
Visit Cape Tribulation’s Headland – Kulki Lookout
The Kulki Lookout of Cape Tribulation has some incredibly good views. Go to the headland and take some priceless photos!
The vines that meander around the trees look like snakes, or you can also walk along the Cape Tribulation Beach. And the rainforest protects the beach from the storms, which means you’ll see most of the beach still intact.
Go for a swim
When you can’t go swimming in the sea (because of the crocs), then the next best thing is swimming in the swimming holes!
Check out Mason’s Swimming Hole or Spring Creek Hole. It’s even better, in our opinion! One of the only places that you can go swimming in the Daintree is the Cassowary Falls. Visit here for a beautiful swim amongst nature, a beautiful, secluded spot that is surrounded by beautiful nature.
Sunrise walks
Wander around the Rainforest at dawn. Wake up as the Rainforest says good morning. Listen to the hauntingly beautiful dawn chorus of the birdsongs around the rainforest.
The Cape Trib Beach Lookout is one of the best places to experience a cassowary! See a Cassowary up close – watch as they wander around the Daintree at dawn! Catching them in the early morning light will allow you a great way to see these birds in their natural state!
Chill on the beach at Cape Tribulation
Or go visit Cape Tribulation Beach and have a picnic to cut costs on buying food out. Make your food, collect some packaged food from the shops and eat on the beach! There is a general store in Cape Tribulation village. Alternatively, there is some nearby. If you’re driving to the Daintree, then get your supplies from the shops here.
